Picture Board Announces Winners

The National Board of Review of Motion Pictures has named Ang Lee’s Jane Austen adaptation “Sense and Sensibility” best picture of 1995. Lee also was honored as best director.

Emma Thompson won best actress honors for her work in both “Sense” and “Carrington.”

The best actor nod went to Nicolas Cage for his role in Mike Figgis’ “Leaving Las Vegas.”

The group named nine other winners for a complete top 10 list. They are, in descending order, “Apollo 13,” “Carrington,” “Leaving Las Vegas,” “The American President,” “Mighty Aphrodite,” “Smoke,” “Persuasion,” “Braveheart” and “The Usual Suspects.”
