4-H Awards Received By University Of Idaho

The University of Idaho Cooperative Extension System received two awards at the annual meeting of the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents held in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Arlinda Nauman, Moscow, Idaho, state 4-H director, was on the team receiving the national Educational Technology Team Award. They were honored for developing and delivering a satellite training conference, “Achieving High Quality Child Care.”

The Communicator Award for outstanding promotional material in the Western region was won by the UI state 4-H office staff: Mary Jean Craig, Arlinda Nauman, Bill Shane, Mary Lee Wood, Candy Boas, Jan Bosse, and Jerry Adams, UI Agricultural Communications Center production supervisor. The group developed a 4-H program guide promoting the projects and activities available to Idaho 4-H members.

Carol Benesh, Bonners Ferry, Idaho, a University of Idaho Extension teacher, recently won the Achievement In-Service Award for Idaho, presented by the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents.

The award is presented to youth program leaders with less than seven years experience. Benesh is active in programs involving elementary and high school youth, having secured more than $26,000 in grants for various youth-at-risk programs.

Bill Shane, Moscow-based Extension 4-H/youth specialist, received a 25 Years of Service Award. He has worked extensively in education and state 4-H programs and manages the state’s international youth exchange programs. He also helped develop a computerized program for 4-H enrollment and fair entries.

Darlene Scalise, Spokane, has had her poem, “Night Shadows” published by The National Library of Poetry in a book entitled “Edge of Twilight.”

Kristen McIvor has been named to the Dean’s List at the University of Evansville, Ind., for the fall semester. She is the daughter of the Rev. David and Merrie McIvor, Spokane.

Thayne McCulloh, assistant dean of students at Gonzaga University, was recently recognized by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Region 5, with the region’s outstanding New Professional Award.

McCulloh was appointed to his position in July 1993 and is responsible for coordination of housing, residence life, conference services, cultural affairs and disabled student services.

The following students have been named to the Dean’s list at Eastern Washington University for the fall 1994 quarter: Marilyn Hauck, a graduate of Shadle Park High School; Sara Johnston, a graduate of Rogers High School; and Kris Kurrus and Stacy Estes, both residents of Spokane.
