Beatles, Elvis Music Up For Hall Of Fame

From Wire Reports

An album from the Beatles and singles from Elvis Presley, Spike Jones, Hoagy Carmichael and Sophie Tucker have been nominated into the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences’ Hall of Fame.

The Fab Four’s seminal 1969 “Abbey Road” album will enter Recording Academy’s Hall of Fame, as will the 1953 jazz classic “Jazz at Massey Hall” with the Dream Team lineup of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Max Roach and Charles Mingus.

Singles set for induction are Presley’s “Heartbreak Hotel” (1956), Carmichael’s “Star Dust” (1927), Jones’ “Cocktails for Two” (1945) and Tucker’s “Some of These Days” (1911).

The NARAS Hall of Fame was created by the trustees to honor early recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance. The inductees will join 106 other recordings in the hall of fame.

Formal announcement of the inductees will come during the Grammy nominees news conference Thursday. The Grammys will be presented March 1 at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium.
