Jonathan Westbrook Named Rotary Scholar

Jonathan Westbrook has been named as a 1995-96 Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholar and will pursue an Master of Business Administration degree at Otago University, Dunedin, New Zealand.

The scholarship covers roundtrip transportation, school costs and some educational travel during the study year.

Westbrook was sponsored by Spokane’s Downtown Rotary Club and will represent a Rotary district encompassing 34 Rotary service clubs in parts of Washington, Idaho and Canada.

He is a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, completed a year of missionary work traveling extensively around the United States and the world, attended the Air Force Academy for two years, and in the spring will receive an undergraduate degree in international business and finance from Eastern Washington University. He leaves for New Zealand in the summer.

The following Inland Northwest students recently graduated from Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma:

Pullman: Matthew Slabaugh, anthropology major.

Spokane: Amy Luinstra, communication and global studies major with a minor in women’s studies, and Jennifer Seim, biology major and chemistry minor.

Walla Walla: Jeffrey Smeed, business administration major.

Kristina Thalacker, a junior at Eastern Washington University majoring in government and prelaw, received a $250 Grace Hallock Pike Scholarship from the Daughters of the American Revolution, Esther Reed Chapter.

The chapter also honored the following area high school seniors with certificates and pins:

Carolyn Kruger, Davenport High School.

Heather Sylvester, East Valley High School.

Kristin Olson, Liberty High School, whose entry has been sent to the state level.
