Ryan Rickerts Winner In Oratorical Contest

Ryan Rickerts, a student at Coeur d’Alene High School, won first place, a gold medal and $50 in the 57th annual American Legion Oratorical Contest.

The event required contestants to discuss some phase of the U.S. Constitution.

Rickerts now advances to the district contest on Feb. 4 at the Post Falls American Legion Hall.

Harry and Karen Goedde, Spokane Valley residents, were recently honored by the Jonas Babcock Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, for Harry Goedde’s service during World War II.

Goedde spoke to the group about his war experiences, which included saving the life of a medic, and the trip he and Karen made last year to Germany to the site where he was injured.

Amy Michelle Ingram, Spokane, made the fall Dean’s List at Southern Arkansas University, Magnolia, Ark.

Kelcey Milbrandt, a business administration student at Creighton University, Omaha, Neb., was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll for the fall semester. She is the daughter of Gordon and Vicky Milbrandt, Colbert, and a 1993 graduate of Mead High School.

Esteban Arana, Post Falls,was selected to attend The National Young Leaders Conference that ends Sunday in Washington, D.C.

This six-day leadership development program is for high school students who have demonstrated leadership potential and scholastic merit.

Arana is the only representative from Idaho to attend the conference. He is a junior at Falls Christian Academy and the son of Nikki Arana, Coeur d’Alene.

Michael Campbell, Spokane, has received a $500 scholarship for the winter semester at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, where he is a pre-optometry major. He is the son of Carol Campbell, and a graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
