Certificates Of Recognition Awarded In Community

Members of the Moscow community as well as the University of Idaho community were honored recently for helping make Moscow accessible to people with disabilities. The certificates of recognition were awarded during Henry Holden Comedy Night. Holden, a comedian-actor-activist who had polio as a child and still uses crutches, was visiting UI as part of Disability Awareness Month.

Community members being recognized were: Tracy Turnbull, manager at Tidyman’s grocery; Bob Hood, manager of Rosauers grocery; Gerard Connelly, owner and president of Tri-State Distributors; Robert Beutler, owner and manager of Hodgins Drug and Hearing; and Ann Raymer, doctor of chiropractic medicine.

UI faculty and staff also received certificates of recognition. They were:

Suzanne Aaron, assistant to the chemistry department chair; Dan Schoenberg, director of university events; Judy McNevin, associate registrar; Marcia Lehmann-Kessler, assistant professor of interior design.

The Hillyard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1474 held a Voice of Democracy Essay and Safety luncheon recently and gave the following awards:

Voice of Democracy winners were: John Osbold, Mead High School, first place; Nicholle Holland first place and Nikki Henshaw second place, both of Shadle Park High School; Tom Cavieze, first place and Missy Longshore, second place, both of Gonzaga Preparatory School; Harmony Dusek, first place, Rogers High School; and Theresa Lyons, first place, Ferris High School.

Essay winners were: Fourth Grade: Christine Malone, first place, and Laura Carrol, Madison Elementary; Emily Yates, second place, Balboa Elementary.

Fifth Grade: Connie Stewart, first place, Logan Elementary.

Sixth Grade: Kimberly Cathcart, first place; Melissa Brodsky, second place; and Cody Pond, third place, all of Brentwood Elementary.

Seventh Grade: Charles Dewolf, first place, Matt Nutting, second place; and Steve Beebe, third place, all of Northwood Junior High.

Eighth Grade: Jason Hill, first place, also taking first place in the Department of Washington; Jon Houk, second place; and Karisse Hendrick, third place, all of Northwood Junior High.

Ninth Grade: Alicia Riley, first place; Joshua Weingarten, second place; and Edina Rezansoff, third place, all of Northwood Junior High.
