Henry Julius Franz Lind, Wash.

Service for Henry Julius Franz, 73, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Menno Mennonite Church in Ritzville, Wash. Burial will follow at Menno Mennonite Cemetery. Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Franz, a longtime Lind resident and farmer, died Sunday.

He was born in Schrag, Wash., and graduated from Lind High School and Bethel College in North Newton, Kan.

He and his wife, Dorothy, farmed in rural Lind.

He was a member of the Menno Mennonite Church and had served as Adams County commissioner for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years; one son, John Franz of Tacoma; two daughters, Katherine Swinger of Lind and Ruth Gfeller of Othello, Wash.; one brother, Leonard Franz of Moses Lake; five sisters, Marie Ewert of Marion, S.D., Viola Boese of Spokane, Clara Reimer of Moses Lake, Lucille Harms of Bellevue, Wash., and Lois Bartel of La Junta, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

Edwin Dretke Sr. Plummer, Idaho

Memorial service for Edwin R. “Ed” Dretke Sr., 78, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Plummer Bible Church. YatesHodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dretke, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

He graduated from Plummer High School in 1935 and served in the Army from 1943 until 1945.

He worked for the Idaho State Police from 1946 until 1948 and then operated the Plummer Inn for many years. He also worked for the Gateway Highway District.

In 1959 he became superintendent of Heyburn State Park, where he worked until 1967. He retired from the Idaho Department of Transportation in 1983.

Following his retirement, he worked part time for the city of Plummer.

He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Annie; two sons, Greg and Ed Dretke Jr., both of Hayden Lake, Idaho; one brother, Arthur Dretke of Hayden Lake; and five grandchildren.

Warren Little Clark Fork, Idaho

Service for Warren Gilbert Little, 78, is set for 1 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clark Fork. Burial will follow at Clark Fork Cemetery. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Little, who was born in Springfield, Mo., died Monday. He grew up in Alberta and served in the Canadian Army and the U.S. Army during World War II.

He moved to Priest River, Idaho, and worked as a police officer until 1955, when he moved to Post Falls. He then worked for Idaho Veneer until he retired in 1980 and moved to Clark Fork.

He enjoyed horses and Pend Oreille Lake and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty; one son, Warren Little of Spokane; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Sturman of Athol, Idaho, Tanya Little of Oroville, Wash., and Mary Waterman of Anchorage, Alaska; and eight grandchildren.

Timothy Grace Spokane

Service for Timothy D. Grace, 28, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Methow Community Church. Burial will be at Methow Cemetery in Methow, Wash. Barnes Chapel in Brewster, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Grace died Friday in a rock slide north of Wenatchee.

Born in Brewster, Wash., he graduated from Pateros High School in 1985.

He served in the Army as a mechanic and began working for Lloyd Logging in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Nadine Grace; one daughter, Danielle Grace at home; one stepdaughter, Tasha Schliebe of Spokane; his father and stepmother, Mike and Carolyn Grace of Pasco; his mother, June Norris of Las Vegas, Nev.; one brother, Brett Grace of Pasco; two sisters, Marcy Bauder and Holly Grace, both of Pasco; his grandfathers, Homer Grace of Methow and Ernie Harvey of Bridgeport, Wash.; and his grandmother, Peggy Skylstad of Methow.

Glenn Blanford Hayden, Idaho

Private graveside service for Glenn O. Blanford, 69, will be held later.

Mr. Blanford, who died Tuesday, was born in Newport, Wash., and graduated from Post Falls High School.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His aircraft was shot down in Germany and he spent three months as a prisoner of war.

He and his wife lived in Hayden, where they operated Universal Insulation for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Alice; one son, David Blanford of Hayden; two daughters, Donna Hanft of Bothell, Wash., and Diane Blanford of Helena; four brothers, Carl Blanford of Seattle, Don Blanford of Chehalis, Wash., Clifford Blanford of Kennewick and Eldon Blanford of Milton, Wash.; one sister, Florence Zirbel of Clarkston, Wash.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

George Boyd Spokane

Memorial service for George M. Boyd, 87, will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Boyd, who died Sunday, was born in Coeur d’Alene and had lived in Spokane since 1910.

He worked for Great Northern, Union Pacific and Northern Pacific railroads as a boilermaker for many years.

He retired from the city of Spokane as a boilermaker inspector.

Mr. Boyd was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lee Boyd of Spokane; one brother, Raymond Boyd of Vancouver, Wash.; and one sister, Virginia Brown of Spokane.

Louise Ewy Everett

Service for Louise R. Ewy, 84, will be at 2 p.m. today at Purdy and Walters Funeral Home, with Cassidy Funeral Home in Everett. Graveside service is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Cheney Funeral Chapel is in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Ewy died Sunday in Everett, where she had lived for the past six years.

She was born in Echo, Ore.

She had been a longtime Spokane resident and retired from the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children as a nurse’s aide.

Her husband, Otto Ewy, preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Otto Ewy of Post Falls; one daughter, Katherine Johnson of Everett; one brother, Paul Oliver of Echo; one sister, Genevieve Pearson of Everett; two granddaughters and one greatgrandson.

Dianne Frost-Rohde Spokane

Memorial service for Dianne E. Frost-Rohde, 46, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-Cheney.

Mrs. Frost-Rohde died Sunday in an automobile accident while out of town.

She was born in Jamestown, N.Y., and had lived in Spokane since 1969. She received a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University.

She drove a school bus for the Cheney School District and had worked for Harris Corp. She served in the Air National Guard with the 242nd Air Traffic Control Flight for 15 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ken Rohde; one son, Darrell of Vacaville, Calif.; one brother, Bruce Frost of New York; three stepchildren and one granddaughter.

Lucretia ‘Crete’ Organ Colfax, Wash.

Graveside service for Lucretia “Crete” Organ, 78, will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Organ, who died Saturday, was born in Colfax.

She was a banking clerk for Old National Bank in Colfax and retired in 1980.

She was a member of the Aloha Club.

Mrs. Organ is survived by her husband of 24 years, Lester; one son, Jim Deife of Spokane; and one sister, Mary Moss of Fairfield.

Melvin Zyph Chattaroy

Memorial service for Melvin L. Zyph, 69, is set for 1 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. There will be private inurnment.

Born in Newport, Wash., Mr. Zyph died Friday.

He had lived in Spokane for 48 years and served in the Navy during World War II.

He graduated from California School of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles and worked for 32 years at Smith Funeral Home in Spokane. He was the owner of Smith Funeral Home from 1971 to 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Lucia Zyph; two sons, Mike Zyph of Billings, Mont., and Roger Zyph of Spokane; one brother, Don Zyph of Ocean Shores, Wash.; one sister, Marjorie Anderson; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or Hospice of Spokane.

Christopher Lewis Everett

Memorial service for Christopher William “Chris” Lewis, 26, will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Lewis, who died Saturday, was born in Seattle.

He graduated from Mead High School, where he ran track and cross country. He also graduated from Washington State University.

He was employed as a civil engineer for the state Department of Transportation and had lived in Everett for the past three years.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Phil Soucy of Spokane; his father, Paul Lewis of Spokane; one brother, Carl Lewis of Spokane; his grandparents, Luther and Melba Sandberg of Spokane, and Carl and Renoldis Lewis of Deer Park; and his companion, Michelle Westman of Tacoma.

Cleon Honn Colfax, Wash.

Service for Cleon W. Honn, 90, is planned for 1 p.m. Friday at Benge (Wash.) Community Church. Burial will follow at Winona Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Honn, who was born in Winona, Wash., died Tuesday at home.

He lived and farmed in the WinonaBenge area and held a pilot’s license.

He was a member of the Benge Community Church, the Winona Grange and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers.

Mr. Honn is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lena; two sons, Ray Honn of St. John, Wash., and Floyd Honn of Endicott, Wash.; one brother, Keith Honn of Benge; seven grandchildren and 13 grandchildren.

Faith Lake Spokane

Memorial service for Faith M. Lake, 57, is planned for 10 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lake, former owner of Ceramics Galore, died Monday.

She was born in Milwaukee and had lived in Spokane for 20 years.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Lake; two daughters, JoAnne Duffy of Spokane and Cindy McKechnie of Juneau, Alaska; one stepdaughter, Darlene Larson of Chattaroy; one stepson, George Lake of Spokane; three brothers, Earl Ziemann of Anaheim, Calif., Douglas Ziemann of Milwaukee and Allen Ziemann of San Diego; and seven grandchildren.

Charles ‘Roger’ Anderson Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Charles “Roger” Anderson, 80, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at 1055 Brett Road, Coeur d’Alene. English Funeral Home in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Anderson, who died Monday, was born in Winchester, Idaho.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1971 and was an electrical engineer for Louisiana Pacific.

Mr. Anderson enjoyed woodworking, fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Thelma Anderson; one daughter, Bunny June Post of Pilot Rock, Ore.; one sister; two brothers; three grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Joyce Walters Spokane

Private graveside memorial service for Joyce Marie Walters, 48, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Walters, who was born in Wallace, died Tuesday.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and had lived in Spokane for 35 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Walters; one son, Brian Walters of Spokane; one daughter, Cindy McCauly of Spokane; one stepson, Johnny Walters of Eureka, Mont.; four sisters, Nancy McKinney, Betty Cameron and Jean Powers, all of Spokane, and Ella Mae Argall of Texas; one brother, John Tolson of Florida; and seven grandchildren.

Mary McDonell Spokane

Memorial service for Mary C. McDonell, 83, a former Hayden Lake, Idaho, resident, will be at 4 p.m. today at St. Cyril and Methodius Byzantine Catholic Church in Spokane. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McDonell died Sunday at Valleycrest Nursing Center.

She was born in New England, N.D.

She moved to Spokane as a teenager and had worked as a waitress for Saks restaurants.

She lived in Hayden Lake from 1970 until 1980 and then returned to Spokane.

Her husband, Lawrence, died last year.

She is survived by one stepson, Bill McDonell of Chewelah, Wash.; one brother; five stepgrandchildren and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Henry Esmieu Jr. Spokane

Service for Henry Esmieu Jr., 85, is set for 10 a.m. Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Walla Walla.

Mr. Esmieu, who was born in Walla Walla, died Saturday.

He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1931 and had lived in Spokane for 50 years.

Mr. Esmieu was a cement finisher and retired from Gus Bouten Construction in 1975.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge.

His wife, Thelma Esmieu, died in 1993.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and James Esmieu, both of Spokane; one daughter, Diana Dunnell of Elk; one brother, Stephen Esmieu of Walla Walla; one sister, Elisa Schrag of Bothell, Wash.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ernest Giedt Lewiston

Graveside service for Ernest Henry Giedt, 87, will be at 11 a.m. today at Pullman City Cemetery.

Mr. Giedt died Monday of a heart attack at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston.

He was born in Ashley, N.D.

He had worked for The SpokesmanReview after graduating from high school until 1935. He moved to Chewelah, Wash., and worked for the newspaper there. He and his wife, Mae Giedt, moved to Pullman and he worked as a shop foreman until 1968 at the Pullman Herald. They moved to Lewiston in 1970 and he retired from the Lewiston Tribune in 1975.

He was a member of Chewelah Masonic Lodge No. 135, the Royal Arch Masons, the Communications Workers of America and the Banana Belt Senior Citizens in Lewiston.

His wife died in 1980.

He is survived by one son, Gerald Giedt of Lewiston; and one sister, Ruth Haidey of Medical Lake.
