Local Military Persons Receive Several Awards

The following local military persons have received awards:

Senior Airman Carrieann Hebert, daughter of Judy Lymon, Otis Orchards, and James Maxian, Spokane, has been decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal. She is a 1987 graduate of Mead High School and stationed at Altus AFB, Oklahoma City, Okla.

Sgt. Laurence Babbitt, son of Pauletta Magnuson, Coeur d’Alene, has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal. He is a 1986 graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School and stationed at Ray Barracks, Friedberg, Germany.

Airman 1st Class Tracie Faulk, daughter of Randall and Trudy Whittenburg, Coeur d’Alene, has been named outstanding transportation airman of the year for the Air Force Space Command. She is stationed at Malmstrom AFB, Great Falls, Mont.

Pfc. Flint Lightfoot, son of Bob and Leigh Lightfoot, Spokane, has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal. He is a 1991 graduate of Central Valley High School and stationed at Conn Barracks, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Travis Mooney, a senior electrical engineering student at Gonzaga University, captured first place during the recent 1995 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Northwest Area Region 6 Paper Contest. There are 16 schools of electrical engineering and technology located in the region, which includes the states of Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Idaho.

Mooney presented his paper entitled “Analysis and Design of a 10-Band Graphic Equalizer,” which he developed to serve as an addition to his home theater system. His design features a stereo model, additional bass band, and the use of modern devices with improved performance quality.

Gonzaga University student Tom Lopach, a junior political science major from Helena, has been selected for the White House Intern Program this summer. He is the son of Pat Haffey and Mike Lopach, both of Helena.

As part of the internship program, President Clinton requires that interns do a service project within the Washington, D.C., area. Lopach served as student affairs vice president for the Gonzaga Student Body Association this school year, and is senior class president-elect of the GSBA.

Lopach will be assigned to serve either the chief of staff, vice president, public liaison or the national AIDS policy.
