NBC’s peacock strutted to victory in the weekly prime-time Nielsen ratings on a 1-2-3-4-5 finish of its powerful Thursday night lineup.

“ER,” “Seinfeld,” “Friends” and the freshman sitcoms “Caroline in the City” and “The Single Guy” were the top five. Other than CBS News’ “60 Minutes” at No. 8, ABC owned the next five slots, including Tuesday’s 10th-ranked news special, “The Simpson Verdict.”

For Oct. 2-8, NBC won with an 11.7 rating and a 19 percent share of the TV audience. ABC was a close second at an 11.0 rating, 18 share, and CBS trailed with a 10.0 rating, 16 share, according to Nielsen’s Tuesday release.

The Fox Broadcasting Co., programming 15 of the 22 prime-time hours to retain its exemption from network regulations, had a 7.2 rating, 12 share.

Sixth-ranked “Home Improvement” was ABC’s top-rated show, but the network’s new Tony Danza comedy, “Hudson Street,” was ninth.
