Young Talent Sought For ‘Nutcracker’ Roles

Joe Ehrbar Correspondent

Christmas is coming - and the Alberta Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker” will return to the Spokane Opera House.

And, as in years past, the company is looking for local talent to fill the children’s roles.

The Ballet Arts Academy, 408-1/2 W. Sprague, will audition children at noon on Sept. 24. There is a $10 audition fee, and a $38 performance fee for those who are selected.

Children, from age 7, with one year of ballet training, can audition. Certain height requirements must be met.

During Act I’s “Party” scene, children must be at least 9 years old, and 8 or older for “The Battle.” Act II roles will be filled by dancers who are 7 or older.

Rehearsals start Sept. 24 and continue through Dec. 6. “The Nutcracker” opens Dec. 7.

Auditioners are to arrive 30 minutes early to sign in. For more information, call 838-5705.
