The Spokane Symphony presents its Family Concert, “Those Wonderful Composers and Their Musical Machines,” Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Spokane Opera House.

Musical director Fabio Mechetti will show how an orchestra can musically “portray” some great inventions.

Concertgoers will hear train whistles and computer-game noises. Mechetti will conduct portions of Tchaikovsky’s “March of the Toy Soldiers,” Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8, and works from Villa-Lobos, Leroy Anderson and Gunther Schuller.

Before the concert, a Musical FunFair will start at 1 p.m. in the lobby. It will feature a light show called “Seeing Sound Through Light and Laser” and a demonstration of drums from around the world. Children can learn about music hands-on.

Tickets are $7.50 reserved, $5.50 general admission, available at the Spokane Symphony Ticket Office on the Skywalk level of the Seafirst Financial Center, 601 W. Riverside, or by calling 624-1200.
