Three Local Radio Stations Sold Triathlon Buys Kisc-Fm, Knrf-Fm And Kaqq-Am
Triathlon Broadcasting company has closed the deal on its acquisition of three Spokane radio stations, giving the San Diego-based company control of 11 stations in the Spokane market.
Triathlon announced Friday it has finalized the acquisition of KISC-FM, KNRF-FM and KAQQ-AM from Silverado Broadcasting Co. of Sacramento, Calif.
Triathlon already provides programming to KEYF-FM, KKZK-FM, KEYF-AM and KUDY-AM under a local marketing agreement, and sells advertising time on two additional Spokane stations, KNJY-FM and KCDA-FM.
KISC is the third-ranking FM station in the Spokane market and has an adult contemporary format. KNFR plays country music, and ranks seventh among FM stations in the market. KAQQ is the third-ranked AM station and has a middle-of-the-road format.
Triathlon, a company that made its first public offering of stock about a year ago, has been aggressively acquiring stations ever since federal law was changed in 1995 allowing one company to own more than four stations in any given market.
Norman Feuer, president and chief executive officer of Triathlon, said the company will continue in its acquisition mode.
“Over the next several months we will be closing the previously announced purchases of 24 additional stations,” Feuer said in a news release. “Our strategy is to build clusters of stations within markets in order to create substantial market share, which should allow us to rapidly grow the revenues and broadcast cash flow of the company, resulting in the maximization of shareholder value.”
Triathlon also owns or has a hand in the operation of six radio stations in the Tri-Cities.
