Stone Din’ Wanna Act Except On Her Own Terms

Sometimes, so goes the old saw, less is more.

Sharon Stone took that notion to heart during the filming of her latest movie, the death-row drama “Last Dance.” “No makeup. No hairdo. No props. I didn’t even use my natural voice,” Stone told People magazine.

And how did that make her feel? Well, she said, “I didn’t feel that ugly.”

And, on the other hand, “It was freeing not to worry about messing up my clothes or ruining my hair between takes. I could run around the lot, take a nap in my trailer, then go back to work.”

The film’s producers, though, had to be convinced.

“At first,” she said, “they were like, ‘Do you have to look so bad? You don’t even look like Sharon Stone.”’ Loose talk

O.J. Simpson, answering an Oxford University student who asked whether his “acting skills” helped convince the jury to acquit him of murder: “All of a suddenly I’m Laurence Olivier.”

The party, no doubt, will be held on Sunset Boulevard

Glenn Close turns 49 today.

Our suggestion: Keep your own last name, Gwyneth

Sometimes, disobedience pays off. “My father always said, ‘Don’t marry an actor, because actors are vain and insecure,”’ says 23-year-old actress Gwyneth Paltrow. Well, she hasn’t married anyone, so far, but she is heavily involved with Brad Pitt. “Brad is the one good one and I got him,” Paltrow told People magazine.

You hear the one about the oncologist and his parrot?

You know Steven Allen, the comic. But now meet Steve Allen, colon cancer survivor. And it is in that second capacity that the former “Tonight” show host is encouraging hospital officials to set up “humor rooms” stocked with books, tapes, albums and cartoon collections. The idea, Allen says, is to use humor in the fight against cancer.

Say, pretty lady, I bet you’re a Virgo

Remember the first words you uttered to your spouse? Nicolas Cage, who is married to Patricia Arquette, does. “She walked past me and said that she’d just eaten liver and onions,” he told Details magazine.

Then again, there’s two sides to everything

Dennis Miller has a cynical take on most everything. For example, “Everyone said our show about homosexuality would be a minefield,” the talk-show host told Playboy magazine. “But why? At the end of the day all we said was that it’s nobody’s business what people are into. And then I put in the weird turn. I said, ‘But bisexuals, I think we’ll all agree, are just incredibly greedy.”’ , Hey, have you seen her on that EW cover?

The $41 million that the Jan De Bont-directed “Twister” earned in its first weekend was not only the fifth-best opening of all time, but it was more than twice the amount grossed by all of the other films on the week’s top-10 list. Are there that many Helen Hunt fans?
