Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I recently needed to remove adhesive-backed shelf paper from our kitchen cabinets. I remembered a way that is quicker and easier than the towel-and-iron method.

My system is to use a hair dryer. If your hair dryer has two heat settings, use the lower-temperature one.

This method also is the slickest way to remove unwanted bumper stickers from your car or any other unwanted adhesive-backed items such as stickers that kids put everywhere. - G. Andrews, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Dear Heloise: I’ve found a good way to remove the lids from screw-top jars.

I save the wide rubber bands that come on broccoli and stretch them around the lid. Then you can just screw them off! - Rhean Souders, Waterford, Va.
