Hgtv Giving Away Log Home, Finland Trip

Just in case you don’t have one, a log home nestled in the Tetons near Jackson, Wyo., is the grand prize in a contest sponsored by HGTV.

The contest is the HGTV Dream Home Giveaway.

In addition to the log home, the winner gets a trip for two to Finland and a Mercury Mountaineer (which probably will be handy for driving around Jackson in the winter).

Entry deadline is March 28. To enter, print your name, address and phone number on a 3-by-5 card and mail to HGTV Dream Home Giveaway, P.O. Box 52943, Knoxville, TN 37950, or look for information on the Web at www.hgtv.com. Entrants may send as many postcards as they want. Winners will be selected in a random drawing on April 3.

Just part of spring cleaning

Recycle this newspaper

A national garden catalog is offering a wooden press for making your own small pots out of newspapers, eliminating the need for plastic containers and finding yet another way to recycle newsprint.

“It’s been a staple in our spring catalog,” says Meg Smith, a spokeswoman for Gardener’s Supply Co. She notes the easy instructions:

Roll at least 10-inch-long strips of newspaper around the press and fold under the bottom end. Press into the form and remove the pot. Then fill the pot with soil, seeds or seedlings.

The Paper PotMaker (item 03-244) sells for $14.95. Ordering information is available from Gardener’s Supply Co. catalog, (800) 955-3370.

Watch them soar

The founder of Nature’s Choice Hans Schnauber, is busy these days promoting an annual “National Butterfly Release” on July 4.

Schnauber began the Sow a Seed program in which participants plant milkweed (a favorite with butterflies) in their yards. Nature’s Choice provides a packet of organically grown milkweed seeds for $3.

The February issue of Wildbird magazine carried a promotional ad for the National Butterfly Release. After just one week on the newsstands, responses began pouring in to Nature’s Choice from around the nation as well as from Norway and Zimbabwe.

For information on the National Butterfly Release or ordering milkweed seeds for your garden, contact: Nature’s Choice, P.O. Box 780, Packwood, WA 98361; (360)494-2400; or e-mail: hans7ilink-2.net.
