Wired Article Tunes In To Music

James Warren Chicago Tribune

As the May issue of Wired reminds its techno-hip audience, “generative music” is the audio counterpart to a computer’s screensaver. If at wit’s end about your future, you might stare at your screen and consider being a music producer.

Or maybe not.

The San Francisco-based monthly, which on Wednesday won a National Magazine Award (the industry’s Oscar) for general excellence, has a regular “Reality Check” feature that dissects the hype about a particular, technology-driven topic.

This month it focuses on “The Future of Music,” with six experts asked to opine, especially about the role of the computer.
