Spokane Evangelical Association Plans Special Service At Arena

Jeff Kemp, former Seattle Seahawks quarterback, and Gary Smalley of the Promise Keepers are two of several celebrities slated for the “Thanksgiving Celebration Service for Marriage and the Family” at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Arena, sponsored by the Greater Spokane Association of Evangelicals. Churches and ministers from all over Spokane will participate.

Smalley has written several books on marriage, including “If He Only Knew” and “For Better or For Best.” Also speaking will be Les and Leslie Parrot, directors of the Center for Relationship and Development at Seattle Pacific University.

The program will include recognition of couples married 50 years or more, a choir of vocalists from several Spokane churches, and a grand finale of music and fireworks.

The free event begins at 6 p.m.

Advent Mass

Mount St. Michael Catholic Church will host a special Mass at 8 a.m., Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent, to bless and light the Advent wreath. The traditional Latin High Mass will follow.

Latin Mass is offered each Sunday at 8 and 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., at the church, 8500 N. St. Michaels Road.

Noon Christmas concerts

The Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington, begins its series of Christmas at Noon Concerts on Wednesday with organist Charles Bradley, and carol dancing with Margaret Doane.

Additional concerts will be from 12:10 to 12:40 p.m., Dec. 10 and Dec. 17.

Listeners are encouraged to bring their lunches to the performance. Admission is free.

Harp concert

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th, will feature harpist Leslie Stratton Norris in a special concert at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The concert is free and all are invited to attend.
