Brand Loney Promoted To Marine Corps Corporal

Marine Cpl. Brand A. Loney, son of Brent and Anne Loney of Moscow, has been promoted to his present rank while serving with the Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Air Corps Station, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Loney, a 1993 graduate of Moscow High School, gained a promotion based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.

Patrick R.T. Drapeau, son of Ronald and Georgena Drapeau of Coeur d’Alene, has enlisted in the Army as a dental specialist and will attend basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Leah M. Landrus, daughter of Stephen and Rosella Landrus of Spirit Lake, has enlisted in the Army as a Patriot launching station enhanced operator-maintainer and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Landrus, a 1995 Blanchard Christian School graduate, qualifies for up to $33,000 under the Army College Fund program due to her enlistment choice and test scores and joined the Army for skill training and experience.

Brad Cleveland, son of Tammy Cleveland of Post Falls, has enlisted in the Army as a multiple launch rocket system operations/fire direction specialist and attended basic training at Fort Sill, Okla.

Cleveland, grandson of Beulah DeMarre of Post Falls, joined the Army for travel and adventure.

Fred M. Hammond, a 1992 Wallace High School graduate, has joined the Army as an infantryman and recently departed to be stationed in Alaska.

Hammond, son of Duane Hammond of Post Falls and Irene Feagan of Nevada, joined the Army to earn more money.

Miguel S. Buddle Jr., son of Sgt. Maj. Miguel and Sara Buddle of Panama has joined the Army as a medical laboratory specialist and has attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Buddle, a Coeur d’Alene resident and 1993 graduate of Zweibuecken High School in Germany, will qualify for a $5,500 cash incentive due to test scores and enlistment choice.

Robert N. Turnipseed, was recently re-elected to serve an eighth term as a member of the international boards of directors of both the Shrine of North America and the Shriners Hospitals for Children hospital system.

Turnipseed, who is a life member of the Coeur d’Alene Scottish Rite and past president of the Calam Coppers Unit and the Coeur d’Alene Shrine Club, will serve as the Shrine’s imperial assistant rabban, part of the Imperial Divan, the 13-member body that helps regulate the Shrine.

The 22 Shriners Hospitals, located throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico, provide specialized medical care to children with orthopedic problems, burns, and spinal cord injuries absolutely free up to the age of 18.

Mary Sears, a past national president and a member of Coeur d’Alene Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 889, recently participated in the 84th national convention of the Ladies Auxiliary, held in Salt Lake City.

Sears, one of 5,000 members at the convention, will serve on the 1997-98 National Special Events Committee.
