Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: Help! Every time I buy a bunch of celery, most of it goes brown and limp before I have a chance to use it!

It’s so frustrating to have to throw out three-quarters of the bunch a week after I buy it.

Is there any way to keep celery fresh longer? I sure hope you or your readers have a hint. - A South Carolina Reader You bet there is!

To help keep the celery crisp and fresh longer, here’s all you need to do: Rinse the celery well and cut it into serving pieces (or lengths you need). Fill an airtight plastic bowl or upright container with cold water and put the celery in. Seal and store in the refrigerator. Be sure to change the water every two days or so to keep it from becoming yucky.

You can also use a self-sealing plastic bag filled with a little cold water. This takes up less room on the refrigerator shelf. - Heloise
