Rosalia Students Earn Scholarships, Awards

Rosalia High School had a bumper crop of award-winning seniors this year.

Eleven graduates received academic scholarships and awards.

The students, their parents and awards are:

Tysen Blank, son of Galen and Sandy Blank, received the Rosalia Odd Fellows Scholarship.

Joe Goldsworthy, son of Bob and Genie Goldsworthy, received a four-year Air Force ROTC scholarship; and a four-year achievement and room-waiver award to attend Washington State University.

Paul Goyke, son of Mike and Sandra Goyke, received WSU’s Scholar-in-Residence Award; its achievement award; and the College of Agriculture and Home Economics Scholarship. Goyke also received the Lorenz Bohrnsen WSU Agricultural Scholarship; Gifted Granny’s Scholarship; and the Larry McKay Agricultural Scholarship Award. He was also a co-recipient of the Rosalia and Malden Masonic Lodge Scholarship.

Anne Henning, daughter of Wayne and Christine Henning, received a four-year Whitworth College scholarship and the Whitworth Alumni Legacy Scholarship; WSU’s GPA scholarship and a room-waiver award. She also received the Frank P. Feenan Memorial Scholarship; and the Howard H. Langden and Edna Bardbuy Scholarship; a four-year University of Idaho tuition scholarship; and UI’s Presidential Scholarship; the Palouse Empire Fair’s Princess College Scholarship; Harold Lawson Memorial Art Scholarship; and the Chad Burnham Memorial Scholarship. She was also the co-recipient of the Rosalia Christian Council Scholarship, the Rosalia and Malden Masonic Lodge Scholarship; and was the Miss Palouse Empire Fair Scholarship Winner.

Sharon Karalfa, daughter of Barry and Linda Karalfa, was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa National Scholastic Honorary; and was co-recipient of the Rosalia Christian Council Scholarship Award.

Lora Langford, daughter of Barbara Langford, received a four-year Gonzaga Dean’s Scholarship; a four-year GU scholarship; and the Daniel Brajcich Scholarship.

Jason Mills, son of Chett and Kim Mills, received the Washington State University Scholar-in-Residence Award and WSU’s achievement award.

Josh Peters, son of Dennis Peters and Debbie Repp, received the Washington State Award for Vocational Excellence, which consists of full resident tuition and fees for two years of undergraduate study at any two- or four-year college or university.

Ben Scheele, son of Al Scheele and Julie Moyer-Nesbitt, received the Gonzaga Dessault four-year scholarship; the Whitworth academic four-year scholarship; the Roger Riggs Memorial Scholarship; and the John and Ruby Evans Scholarship. He was co-recipient of the Rosalia PTA Scholarship.

Andy VanGrimbergen, son of Devonda Brewer, received a four-year Whitworth College scholarship; Eastern Oregon State College scholarship and award; and WSU Achievement Award and its Scholar-in-Residence Award. He was also co-recipient of the Rosalia PTA Scholarship Award.

Allison Willey, daughter of Rolla Doak and Jerry Willey, received the Eastern Washington University award; GU’s scholarship award; Community Colleges of Spokane’s Touch the Future Scholarship; the Gifted Grannys Scholarship; and the Rosalia Lion’s Club scholarship.
