Obituaries

Lowell Corbin Spokane

Visitation for Lowell C. Corbin, 72, will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Corbin, a teacher who was born in Wenatchee, died Sunday.

He grew up in Manson, Wash., and graduated in 1941 from high school there.

Mr. Corbin played basketball for Washington State University for one year before serving in the Navy during World War II. He was a sonarman on the USS Charles S. Sperry in the Pacific Theater. He also served in the Korean War.

He graduated from WSU in 1950, earning a master’s degree six years later. Mr. Corbin was a member of the WSU choir and was elected to Phi Mu Alpha and Phi Delta Kappa.

He taught for three years in Othello, Wash., followed by seven teaching years in Walla Walla and one in Culdesac, Idaho.

Mr. Corbin worked for 24 years in the Riverside School District until his retirement in 1990.

He was a member of First Assembly of God, Melody Singers, Sons of the American Revolution, Hillyard Eagles Lodge 133, Eastern Washington Genealogical Society and the USS Charles S. Sperry Association.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Betty; a son, Lance Corbin of Seattle; a daughter, Megan Johnson of Thayne, Wyo.; a brother, Dale Corbin of Lacey, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Assembly of God.

Hans Thiringer Spokane

Memorial service for Hans M. Thiringer, 84, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport, Wash. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thiringer, who was born in Overland, Kan., died Feb. 18.

He moved north of Davenport and worked in heavy construction.

Mr. Thiringer was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 370 for 55 years.

He was a longtime resident of the Spokane area.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Edna; three sons, Larry Thiringer of San Diego, Leonard Thiringer of Coeur d’Alene and Gary Thiringer of Spokane; four brothers, Paul Thiringer of Roseburg, Ore., Henry and Ed Thiringer, both of Portland, and Carl Thiringer of Spokane; three sisters, Nell Coleman and Freda Ghram, both of Davenport, and Della Stewart of Seattle; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

General Loveless Spokane

Memorial service for General H. Loveless, 58, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Loveless, who was born in Wenatchee, died Tuesday.

He moved to Spokane as a child and in 1958 graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

Mr. Loveless lived in Stevensville, Mont., where he was a meat cutter for 22 years.

In 1987 he moved back to Spokane, where he and his wife owned and operated an adult family home for the past 11 years.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; two sons, Scott and Doug Loveless, both of Spokane; and six grandchildren.

Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Deno Spokane

Vigil service for Geraldine “Gerry” Deno, 59, will be at 7 p.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Deno, who was born in La Moure, N.D., died Monday.

She graduated from high school in Longview, Wash., and worked as a service representative for Pitney Bowes for 10 years.

Mrs. Deno was a member of Assumption Parish and Eagles Lodge 2.

Her husband, Ronald, died in 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Hegg of Spokane; two sons, Mark Deno of Kent, Wash., and Bob Deno of Kennewick; her mother, Jean Cloke of Vancouver, Wash.; a sister, Beverly Hammond of Portola, Calif.; a brother, Daniel Cloke of Vancouver, Wash.; and 11 grandchildren.

Frank Skene Spokane

Visitation for Frank Skene, 94, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Skene, who was born in Scotland, died Saturday.

He moved to the United States in 1921 and has lived in the Spokane area for 75 years.

Mr. Skene retired in 1974 after working in heavy construction for many years.

He was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 370 and was active in senior centers.

Survivors include his wife, Alpha; a son, Robert Hartman of Mead; a daughter, Loretta Hall of Nine Mile Falls; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagles Lodge No. 2.

Frances Barrington Spokane

Funeral service for Frances D. Barrington, 64, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. A private commital will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Barrington, who was born in Grafton, N.D., died Monday.

She was a 46-year resident of Spokane and worked as a homemaker.

Her husband, Edward, died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Edward Barrington Jr. of Mission Viejo, Calif.; six daughters, Susan Foster, Sally Crowley, Sandy Faulkner, Shannon Nelson and Sheila Magee, all of Spokane, and Sharon Blazek of Nine Mile Falls; her mother, Pearl Eng of North Dakota; two brothers, Ronald and Gene Eng, both of North Dakota; three sisters, Audrey Peterson, Lucille Pederson and Mary Bischoff, all of North Dakota; and 20 grandchildren.

Fleet Matt Sr. Worley, Idaho

Funeral Mass for Fleet P. Matt Sr., 44, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Demset, Idaho. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Worley, Idaho. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Matt, who was born in Worley, died Monday in Coeur d’Alene from injuries suffered in a car accident.

He worked at Super Value warehouse in Spokane for the past eight years and had previously worked at Setters Seed Co. in Idaho for many years.

Survivors include his common-law wife, Jolanda Hyipeer; three daughters, Blu Ann, Kathryn and Clarice Matt; a son, Flett Matt Jr.; his mother, Virginia Matt; his biological mother, Geraldine Sherwood; four sisters, Glenda and Vivian Matt, and Mary Ann Zachary and Tina Nenema; six brothers, William, Joseph Sr., Maurice, Eugene and James Matt and Jerry Martin; and four grandchildren.

James Campbell Spokane

Memorial service for James F. Campbell, 74, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. A private inurnment was held at the Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Campbell, who was born in Hillyard, died Monday.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Campbell retired from the men’s wear department at The Crescent in 1987.

He was a member of the El Katif Temple, Valley Shrine Club and Banditos, Concordia Masonic Lodge, the Valley Elks Lodge and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Mr. Campbell was also active in Scouting. He was a Cub Scout pack leader in Walla Walla; a scoutmaster for Troop 133 and an explorer adviser for Post 133, both in Coeur d’Alene; and the recipient of the Silver Beaver award.

He was a 25-year resident of Spokane after moving from Coeur d’Alene.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Ellen; two sons, Bruce and Brian Campbell, both of Portland; a daughter, Cathleen Smith, of San Diego; a stepson, Ralph Bertelson of Spokane; a sister, Margaret Walther of Tacoma; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children.

Beverly Stutsman Spokane

Memorial service for Beverly A. Stutsman, 55, will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Stutsman, who was a 52-year resident of Spokane, died Tuesday.

She was born in Long Beach, Calif., and graduated in 1960 from Lewis and Clark High School.

Mrs. Stutsman graduated from Interface Computer School in 1990 and worked as a secretary at Gobal Enterprises and SMK Construction Co.

She was a championship pool player and was a member of the American Pool League.

Survivors include two sons, Mark and Brian Boisjolie, and a daughter, Kathy Boisjolie, all of Spokane; her mother, Geraldine Braswell of Spokane; two brothers, Gordon and Tom Richardson, both of Spokane; a sister, Carol Boisjolie of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to Cancer Patient Care of Spokane.

Herman Paschke Spokane

No service will be held for Herman Wesley Paschke, 82, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Paschke, who was born in Winlock, Wash., died Feb. 18.

He grew up in Grandview, Wash., and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in Australia as an aircraft mechanic and ground supervisor.

Mr. Paschke worked for several years for Sacred Heart Medical Center as a stationary engineer but retired from Industrial Air Products after more than 30 years as an acetylene/oxygen cylinder operator.

He was a member of Veterans for Foreign Wars Post 1435.

Survivors include a niece, Nancy Ballard of Seattle.

Robert Reilly Jr. Spokane

Funeral service for Robert M. “Bob” Reilly Jr., 29, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Reilly, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

He graduated in 1988 from Riverside High School and worked the past eight years for Laidlaw Transit, first as a driver and then as a dispatcher.

Survivors include his mother, Cheryl Reilly, and his father, Robert Reilly Sr., both of Spokane; two sisters, Debbie Reilly and Camie Pihl, and a brother, Jeff Reilly, all of Spokane; two stepsisters, Sallee Lindsay of Seattle and Katie Kirby of Spokane; a stepbrother, Edward Kirby of Spokane; and his grandparents, Ann and Eric Courtney Jr. of Spokane.

Gladys Louis Spokane

Visitation for Gladys C. Louis, 91, will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be on Saturday at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Louis, who was a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Monday.

She graduated from North Central High School and worked for J.J. Newberry’s for 38 years, much of that time as personnel manager.

Mrs. Louis was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Survivors include a sister, Stella Rawley of Colbert, Wash.

Robert Williamson Wilbur, Wash.

Memorial service for Robert William Williamson, 87, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Wilbur Presbyterian Church. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Williamson, who was born in Dudley, Idaho, died Friday.

In 1938 he married Idaho Schmidt in Lewiston. They moved to Wilbur 50 years ago.

He was a self-employed carpenter and contractor.

Mr. Williamson was a member of Wilbur Community Presbyterian Church, Tuscon Masonic Lodge 81 of Wilbur and Almira, Wash., the Washington State Grand Lodge, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Odd Fellows Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Chuck Williamson of Puyallup, Wash.; a sister, Sue Todd of Colville, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

Ellen Latting Deer Park

Funeral service for Ellen Mae Latting, 66, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Latting, who was a 47-year resident of Spokane, died Monday.

She was born in Parsons, W.Va., and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Latting is survived by her husband of 47 years, Harley; two daughters, Peggy Harriman of Post Falls and Pamela Turner of Spokane; two sisters, Linda Spink of Eagle River, Alaska, and Mary Barbour of Valley, Wash.; three brothers, Richard Gibson of Spanaway, Wash., Donald Gibson of Redmond, Wash., and Raymond Gibson of Richland; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Melvin Johnston Spokane

No service will be held for Melvin C. Johnston, 76, at his request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnston, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

He graduated from the State School for the Deaf in Vancouver, Wash.

Mr. Johnston worked for 10 years at the Desert Hotel in Spokane.

Survivors include a brother, Albert Johnston of Tygh Valley, Ore.; and a sister, Jeanne Evans of Marsing, Idaho.
