Chamber Recognizes Two Local Students

Two local students were honored by the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce for outstanding achievements and dedication.

Sasha Larson, an eighth grader at Lakes Middle School, was recognized for her creativity and dedication as the first editor of the student newspaper, “Paw Prints,” and for having a positive, caring attitude, natural leadership skills and a desire for excellence.

Benjamine Toews, a North Idaho College student majoring in political science, was recognized for academic success and leadership. Toews is a member of the college senate, DECA and serves as vice president of academics for DEC, an association for marketing students, and represented his chapter at nationals for three years.

Toews also maintains a 3.9 grade-point average and wants to continue his education at other Idaho schools.

Kram Allen, a senior computer science major at the University of Idaho, has been offered a position in research and development in the personal LaserJet Division at the Hewlett Packard plant and was invited to attend the IBM Corp. conference in Albuquerque, all expenses paid, for a company interview.

Allen, son of Ch’n’na and Sue Allen of Plummer, is a Coeur d’Alene/Nez Perce Indian and was elected president of Tau Kappa Epsiilon fraternity last fall and also served as scholarship chairman and new member educator in previous years.

Allen was inducted into the Tau Beta Pi, a national engineering honor society due to his class standing in the top fifth of his senior engineering class at UI and was awarded a fifth A.T. Anderson Memorial Scholarship from the American Indian Science and Engineering Society.
