Lecture Series Includes Talks By Nyc Artist

New York City artist Nanette Carter will present three lectures next week in Spokane as part of the Visiting Artist Lecture Series, “Painting at the End of the Century,” sponsored by Cheney Cowles Museum, Eastern Washington University and Spokane Falls Community College.

Carter, known for her dramatic combination of collage and oil paint, is artist-in-residence at West Virginia Wesleyan College.

She will speak at noon Wednesday in the Fine Arts Auditorium on EWU’s Cheney campus, and at 7:30 that night at the Cheney Cowles Museum, 2316 W. First.

Spokane Falls Community College, 3410 W. Fort George Wright Drive, will host Carter at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday in the Student Union Building.

All events are free and open to the public.

Spokane Civic Theatre is accepting submissions for its 15th Playwrights Forum Festival.

The festival - with two sections, adults and students through high school - is open to those who live within a 500 mile radius of Spokane. Scripts must be unpublished with a performance time of no more than 30 minutes.

Entrants are to submit two copies of each script, with an entry fee of $5 per play, by Feb. 1 to Playwrights Forum Festival Search Committee, Spokane Civic Theatre, P.O. Box 5222, Spokane, WA 99205.

To have scripts returned, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

The festival will be staged June 5 to 7, and 12 to 14.

Audition

While summer’s still a while off, the deadline to audition for Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre’s Carrousel Players is Feb. 15.

Non-equity thespians, who must sing and dance well, will be paid for the summer season of musicals.

Also needed are interns and apprentices in costuming, properties, stage management and set construction.

Auditions in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area will be March 28.

Spokane Art School will offer a special valentine card workshop to create a one-of-a-kind card for that special person.

No special skills are required for the workshop open to eighth-grade students through adults.

The workshop, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, costs $23, which includes supplies.
