Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: My mother lives alone. She keeps a $10 bill on the table closest to the front door. Each day when she comes in, she looks for that money.

One day she came home and the $10 bill was not there. She turned around, went to a neighbor’s and called the police.

Someone had broken in and, of course, took the highly visible money along with many other valuable things.

This keeps her from going into the house in case the thief is still there when she arrives home. - Barbara Rozier, Katy, Texas

Your mother is one smart cookie! She was playing it safe to get out of the house, as most security experts suggest. - Heloise
