Will Tom be a silent partner?

Tom Cruise has been practically shouting from the rooftops about his love for his pregnant fiancee, Katie Holmes.

But when their baby is born, he probably won’t say a word.

Cruise, a longtime Scientologist who introduced Holmes to the faith, is likely to follow the faith’s practice of “quiet birth.”

According to the tenets of Scientology, known as “Dianetics,” words – even loving ones – spoken during birth and other painful times are recorded by the subconscious and can later cause problems for mother and child.

Fortunately for Holmes, the doctrine doesn’t say laboring moms can’t make some noise during delivery.

No one’s saying publicly where baby Cruise will enter the world, but if it is at the actor’s Beverly Hills home then noise control might prove a challenge. Buzzing paparazzi are already camped outside.

Tori Spelling‘s first marriage, to actor Charlie Shanian, will be officially over next week, according to court documents, clearing the way for her to marry actor Dean McDermott.

Limiting his exposure

Jailed “Survivor” winner Richard Hatch is being held in protective custody apart from other inmates until his April 25 sentencing on tax evasion charges.

Hatch, known for running around naked during the debut season of the CBS reality series, was found guilty in January of failing to pay taxes on his $1 million winnings.

Village idiot

The original policeman from the disco hitmakers the Village People is in trouble with the law – again.

Victor Edward Willis, 54, was back in court this week as a judge decided there’s enough evidence for him to face trial on drug charges.

Willis already has pleaded no contest to probation violation and gun and cocaine possession charges from previous incidents. In the latest case, he’s charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia and giving a false name following a traffic stop last month.

Out of Elton’s closet

Elton John is selling thousands of pieces of his personal wardrobe to raise money for his AIDS charity.

The sale, which runs through Saturday in Manhattan, includes 10,000 coats, sweaters, suits and other garments worn by John and his partner, David Furnish.

They include a black Versace suit with John song titles – including “Tiny Dancer” and “Rocket Man” – woven into the fabric, and the polka-dot suit he wore when he performed with Eminem at the 2001 Grammy Awards.
