People: From ‘N Sync to in step?

First Fergie, now Joey.

Joey Fatone of the former boy band ‘N Sync says he’s ready to try his hand, er, feet at “Dancing With the Stars,” the hit ABC reality show that pairs celebrities with professional ballroom dancers.

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, was confirmed as a participant for the fourth season of the show earlier this month.

Fatone says he turned down three previous offers to appear as a contestant, but changed his mind because “it’s kind of popular now.”

Besides, he adds: “Can you imagine me wearing those stupid tuxes?”

There’s some precedent for a boy-bander succeeding on the show. Former 98 Degrees singer Drew Lachey won in season two.

“General Hospital” star Kelly Monaco upset odds-on favorite John O’Hurley (“Seinfeld”) in season one, though O’Hurley won a rematch following complaints about the voting process.

Football great Emmitt Smith won the third-season competition last month.

Stayin’ alive?

Former Bee Gee Barry Gibb, who’s planning to make a country album in Nashville, has bought the lakefront house that belonged to the late Johnny and June Carter Cash.

Sometimes, Gibb says, he can sense Cash’s spirit in the house.

“I still haven’t seen a tall man wearing black clothes yet,” he says, “but I am very much into it and hope that I do.”

No suckers for ‘Lollypop’

Two records made by Judy Garland during her first studio recording session at age 12 have failed to fetch the minimum bid at auction.

The top bid for the acetate discs recorded in March 1935 – including “Bill” from the Broadway musical “Showboat” and a medley of “Good Ship Lollypop,” “Object of My Affections” and “Dinah” – was $22,500.

“Clearly, there was interest, but perhaps Christmas shoppers didn’t want to dig too deep into their pockets,” an auction spokesman said.

That’s four dogs, disappeared

Oprah Winfrey is the best celebrity dog owner and Britney Spears is the worst, according to an online poll.

“She once had three Chihuahuas … and never left home without at least one of them on her arm,” Hilary O’Hagan, editor of The New York Dog and The Hollywood Dog magazines, says of Spears. “As soon as she met K-Fed and had kids they (the dogs) disappeared.”

One sick puppy

A judge has dismissed charges against “American Pie” star Natasha Lyonne, who threatened to abuse a neighbor’s dog, after she completed a drug treatment program.

Lyonne, 27, entered a female neighbor’s New York City apartment in December 2004 screaming and yelling, ripped a mirror off the wall, picked up her pooch and said, “I’m going to sexually molest your dog.”
