Idaho

Five local students earned awards for speeches they wrote during the recent North Idaho College Spring Speech Contest. Of more than 400 students enrolled in Communications 101 classes, only 20 were selected by their peers to participate in the contest.

Cassidy Kobialka of Coeur d’Alene won first place in the career category with her speech “It’s Not Rocket Science.” Colleen Johnson of Laclede spoke on “There’s No Business Like Home Business” to take second place. Buffie Minter of Post Falls took third place with her speech titled “The Counselor.”

Stephanie Degaetano of Post Falls won first place in the miscellaneous category with her speech “Fact or Fiction: The Truth About the Army Lifestyle.” Pete Tuford of Rathdrum won second place with his speech titled “Motorcycle Riding: The Adventure.”
