Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Readers: If you are planning a trip out of the country, being prepared can make a world of difference. Since traveling abroad requires a little more planning than domestic travel, here are some hints to help you:

•Locate your passport now and make sure it hasn’t expired. It can take anywhere from two to six weeks to renew and sometimes longer to request a new passport.

•Do your homework and check on any travel warnings for the countries you plan to visit.

•Take the time to read up on the laws of that country – remember, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

•Be sure to leave your itinerary and hotel information with friends or family so that they know how to reach you in case of an emergency.

•If you find yourself in any trouble you cannot handle, contact the closest U.S. Embassy.

Bon voyage. – Heloise
