‘Project Runway’ begins fifth season
Tonight’s must-see
“Project Runway” season-opener, 9 p.m., Bravo.
One of the best reality competition shows begins its fifth season – and, probably, its last on Bravo.
The show has done so well that Lifetime lured it away with a big-money deal. Bravo responded with a lawsuit.
Whatever happens, Bravo still has this season, with Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn and more – including 16 fashion designers.
Last season’s finale reruns at 8 p.m.; then “Runway” starts an hour earlier than usual, giving boost to the 10 p.m. “Shear Genius.”
Tonight’s must-see II
“So You Think You Can Dance,” 8-10 p.m., Fox.
How good is this year’s talent pool? Last week, a duo (Will Wingfield, 21, of Nashville, and Jessica King, 23, of South Carolina) performed a piece so beautiful that the judges were left almost speechless. When their second number was only so-so, however, viewers put them in the bottom three.
That bottom level also included another superb duo, Kherington Payne, 18, of California, and Stephen “Twitch” Boss, 25, originally of Alabama. Great dancers had to do extra solos, hoping to survive.
Fortunately, they all made it. The judges ousted Thayne Jasperson, 27, of Utah and Nigerian-born Comfort Fedoke, 20, a resident of Texas. There are 10 dancers left, many of them way too talented.

“Steel Magnolias” (1989), 6 and 8:30 p.m., Oxygen. Robert Harling adapted his play, with a savvy mixture of humor, drama and sentiment. It was given a superb cast, including Shirley MacLaine, Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Daryl Hannah and then-newcomer Julia Roberts.
“Big Brother,” 8 p.m., CBS. It’s time to evict someone.
“Click & Clack’s As the Wrench Turns,” 7 p.m., KSPS. Here’s the second week of this cartoon for grown-ups. In the first episode, the “Car Talk” guys’ robot manages to create a massive blackout; in the second, there’s a car fueled by pasta.
“Nova ScienceNow,” 9 p.m., KSPS and KUID. Reports range from high-tech (new ways to test bridge safety) to low-tech (how finches learn to sing).
“Criminal Minds,” 9 p.m., CBS. The team chases an arsonist who strikes upper-middle-income homes.
“Every Second Counts,” 9-11 p.m., Hallmark Channel. If you missed this subtly crafted movie Saturday, catch the rerun now. Stephen Collins is superb as a former rodeo champion, transferring all his expectations onto his daughter, beautifully played by Magda Apanowicz.
“Celebrity Circus,” 10 p.m., NBC. Here’s the finale of the quick, six-week competition.
“Family Foreman,” 10 p.m., TV Land; reruns at 10:30. George Foreman is an immensely likable guy, but he may not be good at sharing the spotlight. This reality series starts with his daughter’s 21st birthday. Instead of being happy for her, he develops a belated mid-life crisis and secretly prepares for a boxing comeback.
