Melvin and Dorothy Hayes celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a picnic for family and friends at Manito Park on June 21.

Hosts for the event included their children and spouses: Melvin Hayes Jr., and son-in-law Carl Major, both of Spokane Valley; Shellie and Stan Peterson, Spokane; and Melinda and Keith Crandall, Seattle.

The couple were married June 18, 1938, in Spokane. They have 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
