Scouts earn Eagle rank

Mike Traner was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest given in the Boy Scouts. He is a member of Troop of 481.

Traner repaired the baseball backstop and replaced the team benches at the former Otis Orchards High School baseball field on Wellesley Avenue for his project.

He is a junior at East Valley High School and is the son of Nancy Traner of Otis Orchards and the late David Traner.

• Jackson Peven received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest given in the Boy Scouts. He is a member of Troop 313.

For his project, Peven worked with the Spokane County Stormwater Utility Department. He took water samples near Browne Mountain and ran tests to verify that the Browne Mountain Regional Stormwater Facility was filtering out phosphorus so that it did not run into the aquifer. He used his information with the County to do a Power Point to educate homeowners in the area on ways to reduce their use of phosphorus in everyday life.

Peven is the son of Roger Peven and Karen Shields of Spokane and a sophomore at Lewis and Clark High School.

• Area residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Air Force Airman Richard Harding is the son of Diana Harding of Spokane and a 2010 of North Central High School.

Air Force Airman Gabrielle Thurman is the daughter of Dwayne and Brenda Thurman of Spokane Valley and graduated in 2010 from Central Valley High School.

Air Force Reserve Airman Samantha Bambino graduated in 2007 from Gonzaga Prep and is the daughter of Rodney Bambino of Spokane.

Air Force Airman Lauren Donica graduated from Medical Lake High School in 2008 and is the daughter of Megan Astleford of Spokane Valley and Anthony O’Neill of Cheney.

Air Force Airman Lauralee McMillan is the daughter of Kip McMillan of Hope, Idaho, and Debbie McMillan of Spokane and a 2002 graduate of University High School.

• Three residents graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

Army Pvt. Vincent Cachu graduated in 2009 from Central Valley High School and is the son of Manuel and Maria Homen of Spokane Valley.

Army Pfc. Seana Steiner graduated from East Valley High School in 2010 and is the daughter of Heidi Trump of Spokane.

Army National Guard Pvt. Gunner Kresse is the son of Don and Donna Kresse of Spokane Valley and graduated in 2010 from Valley Christian School.

• Two residents graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Army Reserve Pvt. Erica Gadayan is the daughter of Maria Gadayan of Spokane and Edward Gadayan of San Francisco and graduated in 2005 from Lewis and Clark High School.

Army National Guard Pvt. Ryan Cavaliere is the son of Jennie Sue Cavaliere of Spokane.
