Latest ‘Pirates’ movie available

Philadelphia Inquirer

Available this week on DVD:

“Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”: Somewhat more buoyant than its two immediate predecessors, the fourth installment in Disney’s billions-o’-doubloons franchise finds Johnny Depp teamed with Penelope Cruz in a quest for the Fountain of Youth. Geoffrey Rush is back as Jack Sparrow’s rival, and a school of CG mermaids bring early Victoria’s Secret action to the proceedings. (2:17; PG-13 for intense sequences of action/adventure violence, some frightening images, sensuality and innuendo) • • 1/2

“Bad Teacher”: Some pricelessly derisive turns from Cameron Diaz as a boozy, gold-digging middle school teacher who sets her sights on an impossibly rich, impossibly nice new colleague, played by Justin Timberlake. But the jokes aren’t as good as the concept, and things settle into predictable default-mode raunch. (1:29; R for sexual content, nudity, language and some drug use) • •   1/2

“Monte Carlo”: Cheery teen comedy with Selena Gomez, Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy as three American girls vacationing in Paris who are whisked away to Monte Carlo for the time of their lives following a case of mistaken identity. (1:49; PG for brief mild language) • • 1/2

“Page One: Inside The New York Times”: Unprecedented access to the New York Times newsroom yields a complex view of the transformation of a media landscape fraught with both peril and opportunity. (1:28; R for language including some sexual references)

“Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest”: A behind-the-scenes look at the innovative, influential hip-hop group. (1:38; R for language)
