Indians avoid sweep against Everett AquaSox

EVERETT – The Spokane Indians finally got things going on Sunday, avoiding a five-game sweep at the hands, and bats, of the Everett AquaSox.

The Indians put up five runs in the first inning, including Cam Schiller’s first home run of the season – a two-run shot to center – and Spokane went on to an 11-2 victory over the AquaSox in Northwest League action in front of 1,943 fans at Memorial Stadium.

Spokane starter Abel De Los Santos (1-1, 1.74 ERA) gave up just one hit in five innings and struck out four while walking three. Santos held the AquaSox hitless until the bottom of the fourth when catcher Marcus Littlewood hit a line-drive single to right.

Barrett Serrato was 2 for 4 and drove in four runs for Spokane (2-8), which has gone 1-4 against both teams it has played to open the season and has the league’s worst record. Preston Beck and Schiller also had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

The Indians return home for a three-game series with the Boise Hawks, beginning tonight at Avista Stadium.
