Area roundup: Cougars tabbed for eighth in Pac-12 baseball poll
Washington State was selected for eighth place in the Pac-12 Conference baseball preseason coaches’ poll, released Thursday.
The Cougars, 23-32 overall and 9-21 in the conference last season, received 35 points.
Favorite Oregon State received nine first-place votes and 98 points. Oregon (86 points) and UCLA (84) both received one first-place vote.
Men’s golf
Gonzaga was tabbed for ninth and last place in the West Coast Conference preseason coaches’ poll.
The Bulldogs, who tied for third place at last year’s WCC championships, received 11 points.
Top pick BYU received eight first-place votes and 64 points.
Women’s golf
Gonzaga was selected for second place among five teams in the WCC preseason coaches’ poll.
The Bulldogs received one first-place vote and 13 points to trail Pepperdine (16 points). GU junior Alice Kim and sophomore Raychelle Santos made the All-WCC preseason team.
Men’s soccer
Gonzaga coach Einar Thorarinsson announced the addition of seven players, including midfielder Connor Ourada of Ferris High, who signed national letters of intent on Wednesday.
Also joining the Bulldogs: defender Fischer Gallinger, Gig Harbor, Wash.; defender Austin Giftopoulas, Bellevue, Wash.; midfielder Christopher Michaelson, Lake Oswego, Ore.; midfielder Sam Olson, Pleasanton, Calif.; defender Ben White, Tigard, Ore.; and goalkeeper Ben Willis, Federal Way, Wash.
