In brief: Spokane crews to clean leaves off streets

From Staff And Wire Reports

City of Spokane crews will pick up leaves that have fallen in the street starting today. If it snows Thursday as projected, however, the work will be put on hold until the weather improves.

Residents should check www.spokanecity.org or call the leaf hotline at (509) 625-7737 to find out when their neighborhood is scheduled to be cleaned. People must remove their cars from the street during scheduled pickup times. The first area to be cleaned is the Woodridge neighborhood north of Barnes Road.

Only the leaves in the street will be cleaned by city crews and a city news release reminds residents that it is illegal to take leaves from their yards and put them into the street.

Deputy Riley Quine arrested Tanecia R. Dutil, 30, after a store employee reported she tried to leave after concealing food in her purse. Dutil falsely identified herself as Morgan Morse using a Washington driver’s license, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Quine found two wallets in Dutil’s purse, along with credit cards and identification for three other people.

Dutil had two active warrants for her arrest and was booked into jail on charges of identity theft, possession of stolen property and several other misdemeanor charges.

Garbage collection continues normally

Most curbside garbage and recycling collection in Spokane County is unaffected this week by Tuesday’s Veterans Day holiday.

The city of Spokane, Waste Management and Sunshine Disposal held to their regular schedules.

Garbage pickup in the city of Cheney is delayed one day for the remainder of the week.

Police shoot man who aided in case

VANCOUVER, Wash. – A man who helped lead police to a gunman’s vehicle the morning after Halloween ended up being shot in the leg in what Vancouver police are describing as a case of mistaken identity. They have not identified the man.

On Halloween morning, police were searching for 59-year-old John Kendall, who was wanted in connection with the shooting of his neighbor.

A man called 911 to report seeing Kendall’s car parking on the edge of a wooded area.

When police arrived, they fired on the man because they thought he was Kendall, who was known to be armed. Kendall was found nearby, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
