College baseball: J.J. Hancock helps WSU edge Washington
PULLMAN – J.J. Hancock had two hits, none bigger than a run-scoring, seventh-inning triple, and the Washington State Cougars’ bats woke up just in time to defeat the Washington Huskies 3-2 in a Pac-12 baseball contest Thursday night.
Hancock, who doubled and scored the Cougars’ (16-16, 4-9) first run in the fifth, knotted the score at 2 in the seventh.
Jack Strunc’s RBI single followed Hancock’s triple.
WSU starter Sean Hartnett pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
Cougars reliever Matt Bower pitched a scoreless inning, earning his seventh win of the season.
Jack Meggs homered for UW (18-13, 5-8).
