Obituary: Pence, Mary Kay

Age 69

PENCE, Mary Kay (Age 69) Died in Spokane, WA, on April 18, 2015.

Born August 9, 1945, she was a fourth generation resident of Adams County.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Delbert and Neva Pence and Rudolph and Barbara Borth, and her parents, George and Eleanor Pence.

She is survived by brothers, Robert Pence of Lind, Thomas and Shirley (Curl) Pence of Lind, and Marc and Barbara (Asker) Pence of Beaverton, Oregon, and sisters, Judy Pence of Lind, and Jane Pence of Spokane, six nieces, one nephew, one great-niece, nine great-nephews, and three great-great-nephews.

Mary Kay grew up on the family farm south of Lind, WA.

She graduated from Lind High School in 1963 and Kinman Business School in Spokane, WA in 1964.

She worked as a secretary for 33 years, retiring in 1996 following 25 years working as secretary/office-manager for Johnny Mercer Realty in Othello, WA.

Mary Kay loved the family farm.

She would return as often as possible, even evenings after work.

She loved its history and continuity.

Her favorite time of year was harvest.

She was born in harvest and never missed one in 69 years.

It was always exciting when her birthday came during harvest.

Retirement allowed Mary Kay to enjoy her favorite activities, travel and needlework.

She knit many hats and sweaters for children’s charities, as well as knitting or crocheting beautiful blankets for family members and friends.

Recently Gonzaga Girls basketball became a favorite activity.

Her overwhelming favorite love was for her family.

She adored the children, knitting or crocheting baby blankets for each nephew and niece, and attending as many school performances as possible.

She was thrilled at the arrival of the next generation of great-nephews and nieces and, recently, great-great-nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville and Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM at Lind Community Church, Funeral services will follow at the Lind Community Church at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Lind Cemetery.

DANEKAS FUNERAL HOME of Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.
