In brief: Gun club hosting shoot to benefit paralyzed veterans

The Spokane Gun Club is having a veterans benefit shoot Aug. 29 for the Northwest Paralyzed Veterans of America.

The local chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America will use the funds to send disabled veterans from Washington, Alaska, Idaho and Western Montana to the National Veterans Wheelchair Games and the National Veterans Winter Sports Clinic.

The entry fee for each shooter is $50.

The shoot starts at 10 a.m. and the Fairchild Air Force Base Honor Guard will kick off the event along with a youth shooting team singing the National Anthem. The club is located at 19165 E. Sprague Ave.

Registration open for CCS fall courses for retirees

Geology. Mindfulness. Horror movies. Backyard chickens. Landlord-tenant law.

These are all new classes offered this fall by Community Colleges of Spokane ACT 2 for retirees or those preparing to retire.

Registration is open for the wide variety of courses from exercise and cooking to history, technology and the arts. There is even a free course about understanding and signing up for Medicare.

Besides Spokane, courses are offered in Ferry, Pend Oreille, Stevens and Whitman counties.
