Officer-involved shooting in Pasco caught on video
Suspect reportedly throwing rocks at cars
PASCO, Wash. (AP) — Witnesses say a man was running away when he was shot by Pasco police officers who had responded to a report he was throwing rocks at cars.
Police identified the man Wednesday as Antonio Zambrano-Montes, 35.
Witnesses told the Tri-City Herald the man had run about half a block when he was killed about 5 p.m. Tuesday near the Fiesta Foods store.
Police say the man assaulted two officers, refused to comply and withstood a Taser shock. Police say officers were forced to fire when they were threatened.
Capt. Ken Roske told the newspaper three officers have been placed on leave for the investigation by the Tri-City Special Investigative Team, which will not include Pasco police.
Zambrano-Montes was arrested in January 2014 on investigation of assaulting a police officer, according to court documents obtained by KEPR.
It was the fourth fatal police shooting in Pasco in the past six months. Officers were cleared in the previous shootings.
A witness posted a cellphone video of the encounter on YouTube. Warning, the video is graphic.
