4 The Salish Language 6 p.m. Tuesday, Shadle Library, 2111 W. Wellesley Ave. Students from the Salish School of Spokane will present a history of the Salish languages of the Spokane area and efforts to preserve and revitalize those languages. !0 Big Barbecue Battle Noon-6 p.m. Saturday, Northern Quest Resort & Casino, 100 N. Hayford Road, Airway Heights. Longhorn Barbecue of Spokane and Northern Quest Resort and Casino are hosting a competitive barbecue competition sanctioned by the Pacific Northwest Barbecue Association. The event features barbecue masters from around the region contending for their share of a $15,000 purse. Attendees will get to sample all kinds of barbecue and vote for the People’s Choice Award.
