Obituary: Balderson, Lyle E.
Age 84
He was born and raised in Newport, WA where he was very active playing multiple sports throughout his high school career especially having a passion and talent for track.
After graduating high school he married Mary Taylor on April 15, 1950, a marriage which lasted 65 years.
He then joined the Navy serving four years during the Korean War.
Upon his return from service he attended Eastern Washington University on the GI bill where he obtained a degree in Education.
During his time at Eastern he was involved with Eastern Track where he ran as a sprinter for three seasons.
Throughout his three seasons he set school records and competed in the 1956 NAIA national championships.
Upon graduation he accepted his first job as a city planner in Pasco, WA.
Lyle’s career as a city and state planner took him and his family to various communities throughout the northwest until his final position as City of Spokane Planning Director, where he retired in 1991.
During his retirement he enjoyed travel to various countries in Europe with his wife and extended family.
During these final years he enjoyed being in the Northwest around family who share in those wonderful memories.
Lyle was a man of great character, strength, intelligence and humor.
He will always be remembered as a heroic man, father and grandfather.
