Vandals fall to Bengals in finale

Chris Hansen scored 23 points with five 3-pointers and the Idaho State Bengals hung on at the end to beat the Idaho Vandals 67-65 on Saturday night in Pocatello.

Nnamdi Ezenwa had 14 points and Geno Luzcando added 10 for the Bengals.

Ezenwa made a pair of 3-pointers late in the first half and Idaho State led 34-30 at the break.

Hansen scored the first seven points of the second half, including a 3-pointer, to push Idaho State’s lead to 11 points and it never trailed again, though Idaho scored seven straight points to trim the deficit to one point with 24 seconds left.

Idaho State’s Ben Wilson made 1 of 2 free throws with 14 seconds to go to make it a two-point game, but Connor Hill’s last-ditch 3-pointer missed the mark.

Hill led the Vandals with 21 points.

Northern Arizona 70, Sacramento State 68: Only seconds after getting a similar shot blocked, Kris Yanku drove for a runner and banked it off the glass from four feet out with 4 seconds left, lifting the Lumberjacks over the Hornets in Flagstaff, Arizona.

The loss cost Sacramento State a share of the conference title and the Hornets had to settle for a third-place tie with NAU.

Mikh McKinney scored 19 to lead the Hornets, but missed a jumper with 1:19 left and a 3-point try at the buzzer.

Montana 70, Montana State 54: Chris Kemp scored 17 points and Mario Dunn added 15 as the Grizzlies rolled over the Bobcats in Bozeman to secure home-court advantage in the Big Sky tournament.

Martin Breunig and Brandon Gfeller had 10 points apiece for Montana, which will share the regular-season title with Eastern Washington but host the tournament as the No. 1 seed because of a tie-breaker.

Portland State 86, Southern Utah 73: Tiegbe Bamba netted a double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 15 rebounds as the Vikings beat the Thunderbirds in Cedar City, Utah.

DaShaun Wiggins led the Vikings with 23 points and added seven rebounds, while Gary Winston had 19 points and six assists.

A.J. Hess and Travon Langston scored 14 points apiece for the Thunderbirds.

Northern Colorado 72, North Dakota 71: Cameron Michael scored 18 points, including five 3-pointers, and Dominique Lee sank the winning free throw as the Bears outlasted UND in Greeley, Colorado.

Tim Huskisson added 14 points before fouling out for Northern Colorado.
