Wee bit of rain seen for St. Patrick’s Day parade

The long string of mild and sunny days appears to be at an end – unfortunate timing for today’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Spokane.

The National Weather Service says there’s a 100 percent chance of rain today.

But that might not be reason enough to skip the 37th annual parade, because there’s almost always something there for everyone, as well as a decent helping of candy for the kids.

The parade, sponsored by the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, averages 160 entries a year and usually lasts more than two hours.

Past parades have included musicians, pugs, wiener dogs, dog rescuers, horses, portable toilets showcased on a trailer, students, tribal members, Italian-Americans, politicians, leprechauns, a pole dancer, motorcyclists, Irish dancers, golfers, soldiers, police officers and – of course – much, much more.
