Women’s soccer: Idaho edges Montana, will play for Big Sky championship
The Idaho women’s soccer team had a 2-0 lead within the first few minutes and the Vandals held on to beat Montana 3-2 in a Big Sky Tournament semifinal match Friday at Guy Wicks Field in Moscow, Idaho.
The win earned Idaho (14-4-2) a spot in Sunday’s championship match, where they’ll face Northern Arizona in Moscow at noon.
The Vandals’ Kayla Watanabe scored in the fifth minute and Olivia Baggerly added a goal 3 minutes later. Megan Goo made it 3-0 with her 41st-minute goal. The Grizzlies’ Payton Agnew and Kaitlin Crowell scored second-half goals, but Montana (9-11-2) couldn’t get the equalizer.
The win was the Vandals’ 14th of the season, which ties a school record, and they’ll be playing in a conference championship match for the first time in program history.
