Chuck Barney Tribune News Service

Don’t miss

“The X-Files”: Apparently, the truth is still out there. Thirteen years after the original series run, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return as iconic FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in a six-episode event from series creator/executive producer Chris Carter. Along for the ride is guest star Joel McHale, as a smooth-talking web-TV show host who just might be onto a bizarre government conspiracy. 7 p.m. Sunday, Fox.

Other bets

SUNDAY: Cross your fingers that Anna (Joanne Froggatt) will be OK during tonight’s episode of “Downton Abbey.” It has Mary (Michelle Dockery) “rushing her to a hospital in London for a needed surgery.” 8 p.m., KSPS; 9 p.m., KCDT.

MONDAY: The dynamic Rachel Bloom, star of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” just won a Golden Globe. Isn’t it about time you tuned into her ratings-starved show to see what all the fuss is about? 8 p.m., The CW.

MONDAY: “Lucifer” is a fun and offbeat new drama about a very bored Lord of Hell (Tom Ellis). He has retired to Los Angeles, where he teams up with an LAPD homicide detective (Lauren German) to help punish criminals. 9 p.m., Fox.

MONDAY: “The Magicians,” we’re told, is basically “Harry Potter” for adults. Based on Lev Grossman’s book series, it follows a young man (Jason Ralph) who is recruited to enroll at Brakebills University, a secret institution that specializes in the study of magic. 9 p.m., Syfy.

TUESDAY: “Outsiders” is a gritty new drama about an off-the-grid family living in the rugged hills of modern-day Appalachia. As the saga opens, they are faced with new threats to their property and lifestyle. 9 p.m., WGN America.

TUESDAY: “The Mine Wars: American Experience” is a new documentary that recalls the fight to unionize West Virginia coal miners in the early 20th century. It turned parts of the state into a bloody war zone. 8 p.m., KSPS; 9 p.m., KCDT.

WEDNESDAY: It’s Hollywood Week on “American Idol,” and you know what that means: lots of juicy drama, tears, bickering and butchered song lyrics. We’re so there. 8 p.m., Fox.

WEDNESDAY: In the Season 5 winter premiere of “Suits,” Jessica (Gina Torres) and Harvey (Gabriel Macht) try to figure out how to defend Mike (Patrick J. Adams), despite knowing he’s guilty of the crime he’s accused of committing. 10 p.m., USA.

THURSDAY: It’s the end of the world as they know it. In the comedic drama “You, Me and the Apocalypse,” an eclectic group of mismatched characters is drawn together as a comet hurtles toward Earth. The cast includes Rob Lowe and Jenna Fisher. 8 p.m., NBC.

FRIDAY: After weeks of culinary throw-downs on “MasterChef Junior,” the young contestants see how it all pans out in tonight’s finale. The winner gets a nice trophy and a $100,000 prize. 8 p.m., Fox.

SATURDAY: The 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards is another opportunity for TV and movie folk to honor each other and wear lots of sparkly things. 5 p.m., TNT.
