Cal transfer Jordan Mathews commits to Gonzaga

Gonzaga has bolstered its 2016-17 roster with the addition of Cal transfer Jordan Mathews.

Mathews, who arrived in Spokane on a recruiting trip Thursday, orally committed to the Zags, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. The 6-foot-4, 203-pound guard is eligible immediately as a graduate transfer. He joins a GU backcourt that includes Josh Perkins, Nigel Williams-Goss and Silas Melson.

Mathews averaged 13.5 points and 3.4 rebounds last season. He made 41.6 percent of his 3-point attempts and 79.8 percent of his free throws.
