Man sustains minor injuries in stabbing on Division Street

A man was stabbed on North Division Street Thursday afternoon but was expected to be treated for a minor wound and released from the hospital, according to police.

The suspect – Alexander D. Riendeau, 36, of Spokane – and a woman were walking south on Division when they approached another man near Rockwell Avenue. Riendeau and the victim exchanged words, after which Riendeau stabbed the victim twice and fled the scene, according to a Spokane Police Department news release.

Before the stabbing, Riendeau had threatened his girlfriend and another female with the knife, the release said.

Officers searched the area for Riendeau, and one officer spotted him running in the area of Garland Avenue and Normandy Street. Riendeau initially confronted officers with the knife, but dropped it and continued running, the release said. He was caught and arrested after a brief foot chase. Riendeau faces charges of first-degree assault, second-degree assault, possession of methamphetamines and possession of vehicle theft tools.
