Fresh Sheet: Braggotfest 2017

More than 10 special blends will be on tap at this first-time festival celebrating Inland Northwest’s braggot collaborations.

Braggots are historical fermented beverages, made with grain and honey. Ancient Celtic and Nordic people blended mead and ale along with spices and herbs to make the drink.

The new fest is hosted by Bellwether Brewing Co. in collaboration with Hierophant Meadery. It takes place from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Bellwether Brewing, 2019 N. Monroe St.

Hierophant, Young Buck Brewing and Bellwether are releasing a three-part collaboration: a merlot barrel-aged gruit ale blended with Hierophant’s vanilla poplar mead.

Special guest breweries include Top Frog Brewery, Badass Backyard Brewing, Four-Eyed Guys Brewing, Rants & Raves Brewery, Northern Ales and Nu Home Brew & Bottles and Genus Brewing.

The cost is $15 for a 15-ounce-commemorative mug and six drink tickets. Additional drink tickets are $2 each or three for $5.

Henderson Dip goes dry

The new, dry version of the Spokane-made dip hit stores at the end of last week.

Look for it in vintage-inspired packets at Super 1 Foods and Rosauers, among other grocers as well as online at www.hendersondip.com.

Flavors include Spicy Chipotle, Original Creamy Tomato and Onion, and Classic Caesar.

Henderson Dip offers a modern take on the cream cheese-based creation that Spokane’s Mary Lou Higgins Henderson made for her family from the 1950s until her death in the mid-1980s. Her daughter Becky Fix and grandchildren Taylor Kaiser and Christopher Greene formed Cliff Cannon Foods in 2012 and commercially launched the original creamy tomato and onion flavor in 2013. The dry versions debuted in mid-June.
