Man shot by police after stabbing himself, threatening others in northeast Spokane is identified
The man who stabbed himself, threatened others and was shot by police Sunday evening, has been identified as 29-year-old Terry C. Wallette.
Wallette is suspected of crashing his car in the area of Fairfiew Avenue and Perry Street in northeast Spokane on Sunday evening. He then threatened residents in the area with a knife and stabbed himself in the torso, according to police. He then moved toward officers with the knife and was shot “multiple times” in the chest.
One resident, who asked not to be identified, captured the altercation on video, which was provided to The Spokesman-Review.
Wallette was taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, where he remained in serious condition Tuesday afternoon.
He faces felony assault and weapons charges, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release. Wallette has no prior felony convictions, according to court records.
The Spokane Investigative Regional Response Team – which is comprised of multiple agencies in Eastern Washington, including the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington State Patrol, Spokane Valley Police Department and the Spokane Police Department – is taking over the investigation.
