Down To Earth

Tuesday Video - bag fee day

Today, citizens of Seattle are voting on whether or not to approve a 20-cent charge for consumers who want to bring home a disposable paper or plastic shopping bag from convenience, drug and grocery stores.  The move, which we here at Down To Earth have argued is long overdue and quite frankly a no brainer, has ruffled many a feathers on the other side of the state, not to mention a few here in our otherwise mostly quiet comment section.  The bottom line is -  real progress in fighting climate change and depleting resources isn't going to be cheap, and the sooner we realize we must pay a steep price for the century-plus eco destruction we've aided, the sooner we'll be making progress towards that change.  It's tough to say what we'll happen with Referendum 1 in Seattle today, the best we can do is let the people of Seattle speak for themselves....
